It was picnic day in the meadow. Mama Mouse set out a basket of shiny star-berries.
“One each,” she said, “and we will split the big golden one together.”
Then Mama hopped off to fetch the blanket. Milo looked at the big golden star-berry. It smelled SO sweet.
Milo took one little nibble. Mmm! Then another... and another...
Uh oh. The whole golden star-berry was gone. Milo had eaten it all.
Milo's tummy felt full, but his heart felt wobbly.
Mama came back with the friends. “Who is ready to split the golden berry?” she asked. “Oh... where did it go?”
Milo took a deep breath. “It was me,” he said. “I ate it. I am sorry.”
Mama gave Milo a warm hug. “Thank you for telling the truth,” she said. Milo's heart felt light again.
“Everyone makes mistakes,” said Mama. “What matters is that we make them right.”
“Let's pick more!” said Milo. He led everyone to the star-berry bush.
Together they picked a whole basket of shiny berries. Plink, plink, plink!
Soon everyone sat on the blanket, sharing sweet star-berries in the sun.
Milo's heart felt light and happy. Telling the truth had felt good.
Milo saved the biggest, shiniest berry and put it on Mama's plate.
“For you, Mama,” he said. Mama smiled the biggest smile. What a sweet day.
The truth can feel scary to say, but it always makes your heart feel light. 🐭
