Ollie the little owl sat high on a branch. Today was the day to learn to fly!
Ollie opened both wings wide. Flap, flap, flap! But Ollie stayed right on the branch.
“Oh,” said Ollie. “Flying is hard.”
“Papa, how do I fly?” asked Ollie. Papa Owl smiled.
“First, hop and glide,” said Papa. “Little wings need little tries first.”
Ollie looked down at a soft, low branch, just a little hop away.
Ollie hopped off and opened both wings. Whoosh! Ollie glided down to the low branch.
“I did a little fly!” said Ollie, so happy.
Now Ollie wanted a longer fly, from a higher branch. But it looked so far away.
Ollie stood tall, opened both wings, and jumped. Flap, flap, glide...
Up, up, Ollie went! Round and round in the warm air. Ollie was FLYING!
Ollie flew all the way back to the branch, where Papa Owl waited.
Ollie did a happy loop in the sky. Whee! “You did it!” cheered Papa Owl.
Ollie glowed with pride. Trying again had worked!
